Steven Gerrard has revealed he sought the advice of legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson after being sacked by Aston Villa in October 2022.
Gerrard had initially impressed in the West Midlands following his appointment in November 2021, steering the club away from the relegation zone to a 14th-placed finish after taking over from Dean Smith.
Things took a turn for the worse in Gerrard's first full season in charge after securing only two wins from the opening 12 league fixtures of the 2022/23 campaign, resulting in his dismissal and Unai Emery's arrival.

Helping the 43-year-old through this process was none other than Ferguson, who Gerrard reached out to as he attempted to get his managerial career back on track.
Reflecting on this challenging process, Gerrard told The Telegraph: “It was tough. It hurt. I felt it. But what people need to understand is if I didn’t feel that, if I didn’t take that personally, if I didn’t take full responsibility for that, then I am not Steven Gerrard anymore because when it’s football and it’s professional and it’s something that I love, I will always own it.
