A huge presenting star has confirmed he is officially 'in talks' with bosses at ITV on taking over the role of presenting Dancing On Ice following Holly Willoughby's shock exit from This Morning last week which has left her future on television unclear.
Holly announced in a social media statement last week that she was stepping down from the flagship ITV breakfast programme after 14 years following her co-host Phillip Schofield also leaving the show after admitting to an "unwise but legal" affair.
The 42-year-old said she made the "heartbreaking" decision to leave her long-running role as host of the programme to put herself and her family first as it remains unclear if she will be returning to TV screens anytime soon.
ITV Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern has now confirmed he is in the middle of 'talks' with bosses about taking over presenting Dancing On Ice, a show which Holly also regularly hosted for a number of years connected to ITV.
Stephen said whilst talking to the MailOnline: "I used to do the spinoff show Defrosted and when I stood in for Phil when he wasn't too well, he had Covid, I really enjoyed it and it was so lovely being back with Holly.
"We had a great time together plus lots of the team were the same from when I did the ITV2 show.
"We are talking about it, but I promise you now that nothing is confirmed but if it happens, it will be absolutely amazing... if it doesn't, look, it doesn't. I promise you I would tell you if we had it confirmed at this point."
He also added that he is doing his homework in case the opportunity arises. Stephen added: " The lineup is the best it has been in a few years... I am keeping across the lineup, just in case... It is a huge staple, and it has been around."
