Homes have been evacuated after a suspected gas leak in Bolton. Emergency services raced to a property on Huxley Street in the Smithills area of the town shortly before 5:30pm this evenng in response to a 'concern for welfare' for a person.
Locals said police, paramedics, fire crews and workers from the gas network owner Cadent flooded the street. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have now confirmed that some neighbouring properties were evacuated due to concerns over a possible gas leak.
A spokesperson said: "Greater Manchester Police, alongside colleagues from NWAS and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, attended a property on Huxley Road in Bolton at 5.21pm today (Saturday 5 August 2023) following reports of a concern for welfare.

"As a precaution, neighbouring houses have been evacuated due to a possible gas leak." No information has been given regarding the person that sparked the concern for welfare call.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said they attended but left shortly afterwards as there was nothing for them to deal with.
One resident on the street said just one police car now remains on the street.
"A rapid response paramedic followed by an ambulance and a couple of police cars areived on the street" they said. "There hadn't been any signs of fire or any commotion. Paramedics were going in and out of the house with police officers.
"Suddenly three fire engines arrived, firefighters were going in and out the house, some carrying short ladders. The street was taped off for a while, before the fire service left.
