Gooey, the Manchester bakery that got itself a ringing endorsement from R&B icon Lizzo, has landed a new spot at the Trafford Centre. It’s set up in the Selfridges food hall in a smart new concession front and centre of the posh department store.
The tiled stall - which echoes the decor of the bakery and cafe in the Northern Quarter - boasts a host of its classic bakes for the passing public to get an eyeful of. Among them is its renowned Rolo cookie - a cookie buried under chocolate with a toffee layer on top, just like the childhood fave - and its red velvet signature cookie, which is jammed with chunks of Belgian chocolate.
They will also be turning out a range of their other giant cookies and cinnamon buns as well as a range of huge filled doughnuts, including its Kinderella, which is piped full of hazelnut cream. The counter will be selling single cookies and doughnuts, as well as mixed boxes of four, six or eight too.

The cult bakery, co-founded by Jake Ansbro and Paddy Brown, landed in Manchester in 2020, as a delivery-only service during lockdown. It then opened as a kiosk in the foyer of the Ducie Street Warehouse and as a pop-up at Hatch.
It also collaborated with Selfridges last Christmas, opening a festive pop-up cafe. “We’ve been working on this for about nine months. We’re really happy with the result, really buzzed,” Ansbro told the M.E.N.
