Research has found that using plastic bottles for a prolonged period can have negative effects on our health because BPA and phthalates can seep from the plastic container into the drink.
BPA stands for bisphenol A, an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1950s. Some research has found that exposure to BPA can have possible harmful effects, such as hormonal changes, and possible links to type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Opt for water bottles that are BPA-free and are made from high-quality materials such as stainless steel, ceramic, and glass. Stainless steel is long-lasting and won’t rust, hence why many people prefer it to other reusable materials.
Ensure you sanitise your reusable bottles to prevent bacteria build-up while extending their lifespan. Replace seals and caps when needed to maintain your bottle’s functionality and prevent leaks. Also, avoid extreme temperatures such as direct sunlight or freezing temperatures.
You should change your glass water bottles every two to three years, while plastic bottles will need to be replaced yearly to prevent bacteria growth.
