Incoming Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has received his award after being named the best player in South America for the 2021 season.
Alvarez, who City signed from River Plate in January but remained there on loan, won the accolade after sports journalists from across the South American continent voted in the annual award organised by Uruguayan newspaper El Pais.
The 22-year-old enjoyed an astonishing 2021 season, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 21 games as River Plate won the 2021 Liga Profesional title. 2021 was also the year the young striker made his senior debut for Argentina, and he now looks like a sure bet to be included in the Albiceleste World Cup squad.

Alvarez spoke to Pep Guardiola in February - around the time he learnt of his prize win - with the City boss welcoming him to the Blues and congratulating him on his achievement.
It's been a good month for Alvarez - the award comes eight days after he helped Argentina win La Finalissima by beating Italy 3-0 at Wembley. Next month he will join up with his new City teammates for pre-season, starting what promises to be an exciting new chapter of his fledgling career.
