A gutted Edinburgh passenger missed a Christmas reunion with his family due to a delayed British Airways flight.
Javier Eguren Melero, 35, was all set to travel to Lima in Peru to spend the holidays with his loved ones before disaster struck on December 23. He was due to take off from the capital at 7pm, however, due to the flight being delayed by three hours, he missed his connecting flight from London Heathrow which set off at 10.30pm.
Christmas Day is celebrated on December 24 in Peru, and Javier did not land in Lima until December 25 - meaning he missed his first Christmas dinner with his family in 13 years. British Airways have since told Edinburgh Live that the delayed flight was due to bad weather and apologised to Javier for missing the special day with his loved ones.
Javier said: "I was supposed to be leaving Edinburgh at 7pm so I could get on my connecting flight from Heathrow at 10.30pm. I obviously knew it was going to be a push but I have done lots of travelling and it's personally never been a problem for me before. I was hoping to arrive in Lima the morning of December 24 for our Christmas Day. The flight took off at exactly 22.07pm from Edinburgh so I just accepted my fate at that point really.
"When I got to London, I was met by the connections team and that has never happened to me before. They were three lovely ladies and they were really helpful. They explained that my flight had left without me and they tried for an hour to book me onto the next flight.
