Scots drag star Lawrence Chaney has told how he had to spend Christmas away from his family for the first time after landing a dream job in Vegas.
Life has been a whirlwind for Glasgow based drag star Lawrence, 27, since he won the second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2021.
And he told how his Festive period was transformed by spending it in the US.
Speaking at the RuPaul Drag Con in London yesterday Lawrence, the first Scottish Drag Race winner, said: “My Christmas and New Year was great. I spent it in Las Vegas, I was hosting the Drag Race Live Show. It was so much fun.
“America does Christmas so weird and different to how we do it in Scotland. At home everything shuts down - but on Christmas Day in Vegas I went to the cinema and I was living it up. I went to some friends’ house and it was amazing.

“It was the first time I was away from my family for Christmas so I’m having fun but I also miss my mum and my dad, my sister, my cousins and all that. But it was good fun and we FaceTimed.”
Lawrence has been a big draw for fans at this weekend’s Drag Con at London’s ExCel, where he drew huge cheers from the crowd during the “Queens’ Walk” on the Pink Carpet.
He said: “It’s been amazing. Like, truly, my dreams have come true. And I’m so grateful for all of this. I’m very aware of how lucky I am- right place, right time. And I’m just loving it. I hope it keeps going and I’m really excited for what’s to come.”
