A charity walk will take place on Christmas Day in memory of a respected Scots journalist who lost his battle with cancer last year.
Stephen Wilkie passed away on December 25, 2022, at the age of 57 after learning he had terminal liver cancer in the summer of 2021.
One year on, Stephen's wife, Irina, has organised a 13 mile hike around Loch Leven to raise cash for Maggie's Centres after they offered the couple invaluable support following the diagnosis.
Stephen started his career with the Daily Record before going on to work for a number of other titles, including the Daily Express and Daily Star.
He was respected across the industry and was well known for helping cub reporters starting off their careers.
On the Just Giving page Irina explained how she is trying to survive losing the love of her life, and wants to try and 'outmanoeuvre grief' on the one year anniversary of Stephen's death by taking on a five or six hour walk with her dog, Bear.
Irina paid a touching tribute to her husband.
She said: "A giant of a man; veteran journalist with a fierce intellect; an acerbic wit; unashamed pedant; dubbed “Wilkipedia” ... rather smug about it too.
"And a genuinely good man with a generous heart who I loved very dearly."
Irina has already managed to raise £3560 for Maggie's Centres at the time of writing. She explained how she was 'grateful' for their candour, and also thanked the NHS and their friends who rallied around and wrapped 'protective arms' around the couple.
