Greater Manchester Police has launched an investigation into allegations made by a lifer who claims he is innocent of the murder he was convicted of.

Two men who were arrested after a woman was hurt in an alleged 'domestic assault' on an estate near Heaton Park have been released on bail, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to the scene of the incident on Torcross Road in Blackley at around 10.50am on Sunday. Police said one woman suffered injuries to her arm.
Two suspects - a man aged in his 40s and an 18-year-old male - were arrested. One was held a short distance away near a bus stop on Middleton Road close to Heaton Park.

Officers cordoned off stops on either side of the road as investigations were carried out. A number of police vehicles were pictured lining the side of the road near the Sainsbury's supermarket.
In an update issued this morning (February 14), police said both arrested men have since been bailed pending further investigation. Enquiries are ongoing.
Previously, a GMP spokesperson said in a statement: "At around 10.50am this morning (Sunday 11 February 2024), officers were called to reports of a domestic assault on Torcross Road, North Manchester. An 18-year-old man and a man in his 40s have been arrested on suspicion of assault. One suspect was arrested on Middleton Road.
"A female victim is believed to have an injury to her arm. Enquiries are ongoing."
