A major incident has been declared following a suspected chemical leak in Trafford Park this morning - with residents living nearby urged to keep their windows and shut.
A large number of ambulance, fire and police vehicles are on the scene on Tenax Road with a huge 300m cordon in place and a stretch of the road closed off. The Manchester Evening News understands the suspected chemical leak is in the Lanxess building, with the chemical believed to be phosphorus oxychloride.
A major incident has been declared by both Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and by the North West Ambulance Service, a spokesperson for GMP confirmed. No injuries have been reported.
Police said 'everyone at the premises had been accounted for'. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 9am today (Monday 4 March 2024), GMP received reports of a hazmat incident at a business premises on Tenax Road in Trafford Park.
"Officers are currently at the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service. There has been no reported injuries and everyone at the business premises has been accounted for.
"A 300m cordon is currently in place with residents and business being advised on health grounds to close all doors and windows while investigations continue. A number of surrounding roads have been closed as a precaution."
A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Just before 9am this morning (Monday 4 March) 12 fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to reports of a suspected chemical incident at an industrial site on Tenax Road, Trafford Park.
