Alex Beresford, 41, is taking on the ultimate BBC challenge in Celebrity Race Across the World and bringing along his dad Noel for the ride - however, his old man wasn't his only choice of travel companion. The Good Morning Britain presenter has revealed that he originally wanted to take his wife Imogen on the show with him - but worried they'd "snap at each other" whilst trekking from Morocco to Norway. Celebrity Race Across the World will see Alex compete against McFly’s Harry Judd, All Saints singer Melanie Blatt and racing driver and pundit Billy Monger as they travel 10,000 kilometres over the course of a month.
Speaking ahead of the show's debut, Alex said that while it was a "huge privilege" to take his dad on the trip, he was tempted to take Imogen. "My wife Imogen really wanted to come, but we’d only been married for four or five weeks,” he said. “I thought that would be a lot of pressure to put our relationship under – we might snap at each other more.
"Whereas with my dad, I knew there was going to be that level of respect.
There's only so far you can push it before he gives me a clip around the ear!" The ITV weather man married Australian 29-year-old Imogen McKay in October last year, with the wedding taking place in Majorca. Alex was previously married to interior designer Natalia Beresford, who he split from in 2019.
The former couple share 13-year-old son Cruz. The TV presenter revealed that not speaking to his wife or son whilst filming Celebrity Race Across the World "absolutely killed" him.
