The first bank holiday of 2024 is behind us already, with New Year's Day over and done with. There's a bit of a wait until our next bank holiday, which is the long Easter weekend. Last year, we enjoyed an extra day off in May thanks to King Charles' coronation. But this year, England and Wales get the standard eight bank holidays in total, with no other special occasions on the cards.

King Charles' 2024 honours list has been unveiled, with dozens of familiar faces being recognised for their incredible work including Dame Shirley Bassey, Emilia Clark and Mary Earps. Among those receiving honours is Tony Hudgell, nine, who is awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM).Tony, who hails from Kent, has raised over £1.8 million for Evelina London Children’s Hospital, which saved his life. He heartbreakingly suffered abuse at the hands of his birth parents shortly after he was born, resulting in him having both of his legs amputated.

England goalkeeper Mary Earps, Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis and Game of Thrones actor Emilia Clarke are among the stars of sport, stage and screen recognised in the New Year Honours list, while the Archbishop of Canterbury leads those rewarded for their work on the King’s coronation. Singer Dame Shirley Bassey, who has sold more than 135 million records, is made Companion of Honour for her services to music, becoming the 64th living member of the order which can only have 65 members at any one time.
