A Glasgow to Edinburgh railway line is to be closed all weekend after a train derailed from its tracks overnight.
ScotRail alerted its customers to the issue this morning, advising that various routes will be affected.
The provider has described the problem as an "operational incident", which occurred between Coatbridge Sunnyside and Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.
The carriage was not in service at the time and there were no recorded injuries.
Engineers are currently on-site working to rerail the train. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
It means that trains will be unable to run between Shettleston, Glasgow, and Bathgate, West Lothian.
Services between Glasgow Queen Street via Airdrie may be cancelled or revised as all lines are currently closed.
Disruption is expected to last until Sunday, May 8.
In the meantime, ScotRail has sourced buses to run a shuttle service between Shettleston and Bathgate.
David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “We’re sorry to customers who are experiencing disruption to their journey as a result of this incident.
“Engineers are on site and working round the clock to get the train back on the tracks and return services to normal as quickly as possible, however, we’re expecting some disruption for the remainder of the weekend.
“Customers should check their journey on our website, mobile app, and through our social media channels for the latest information."
