Frank Lampard has been left confused by Erik ten Hag's plan for Mason Mount and he has questioned why Manchester United signed the midfielder from Chelsea.
United signed Mount last summer for an initial fee of £55million and he signed a five-year deal with the option of a further year, but his time at the club thus far has not been a success.
Mount was brought to Old Trafford to play in a deeper midfield role and there are doubts about whether he is suitable for that position. He has also sustained different injuries and he last played against Luton Town on November 11 when picking up a calf problem.

Mount returned to light individual training after Christmas, but he was absent from the main group session at Carrington on Tuesday and is not expected to be available this weekend.
Nonetheless, the 24-year-old is closing in on a return to fitness and he'll have a point to prove for the remainder of the season after making an underwhelming start.
Lampard coached Mount twice during spells with Derby County and Chelsea and he was recently asked for his verdict on his former player when speaking to the Stick to Football Podcast.
"He's had injuries, he's in a team that is struggling and there's big negativity in certain ways, but from my point of view, because I took him to Derby, he changed everything for me there," Lampard said.
"He played for me with [Fikayo] Tomori and [Harry] Wilson, but Mason particularly [was important]. His level of training was high. Pressing brilliant, off the ball was brilliant, if you want to give him information he takes it instantly.
“He will jump and recover, jump and recover. Very good
