No American city is as steeped in native musical lore and legacy as is New Orleans and you get a good feeling for how that came about in Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story. It’s a documentary overflowing with performers and music that still barely begins to scratch the surface of what’s gone on musically for ages in the fabled, oft-distressed city. Music fans of assorted persuasions will be delighted with the samples served up here, although the subject is so vast and varied that something like a six or ten-hour miniseries would be required to begin to do it justice. With Sony Pictures Classics handling the U.S. release starting May 13 after it SXSW bow, the film is certain to get a nice lift-off and extensive exposure on home tubes is assured.

Angelique Jackson Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to distribute “The Walk,” which tells the story of the court-ordered forced integration of the Boston School System in the 1970s.The film, starring Justin Chatwin and Terrence Howard, will be released in theaters and digitally on June 10.“The Walk” follows Bill Coughlin (Chatwin, pictured above), a Boston Irish cop, who must contend with social pressure and bigotry in his neighborhood and within the police force after being assigned to protect Black students bused into the all-white South Boston High. The plot chronicles the political and social fallout following the court’s 1974 decision, which resulted in brutal violence and city-wide protests, as three stories collide during the fateful first day of school.

Frank Pesce was a character actor known for roles in movies including “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Top Gun.”One of Pesce’s earliest roles was an uncredited bit part in “Rocky” alongside his friend, Sylvester Stallone. He made early appearances on TV shows including “Kojak” and “Police Story” and in such movies as “American Gigolo” and “Flashdance.” Pesce had a small role at the beginning of “Beverly Hills Cop,” playing a criminal buying illegal cigarettes from Eddie Murphy’s Alex Foley.
