Feeling tired is usually taken as an inevitable sign of ageing, but a new study says fatigue is a predictor of risk of early death in older adults.
In the study, researchers say feeling fatigue is 'highly prevalent' in older adults, but fatigue is associated with a decline in mobility and other negative health consequences.
Rather than brushing aside fatigue as a hallmark of getting older, research indicates fatigue can point to other health problems that threaten the length of your lifespan.
The new findings established 'fatigability' - physical or mental exhaustion due to exertion - as an indicator of earlier death, The Express reports.
The study, 'Perceived Physical Fatigability Predicts All-Cause Mortality in Older Adults', was published in the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences last month.
