Brits heading to Spain this week have been warned of extreme weather conditions as the country faces a blistering heatwave. Extreme weather warnings are in place as temperatures in some areas could soar as high as 44C.
Red and amber alerts have been issued by the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), Spain's weather agency. ‘Extreme risk’ alerts are in place on Wednesday in the Murcia and Andalucia regions of Spain, covering the Almanzora Valley, the Guadalentin Valley and the Malaga area.
AEMET has also issued ‘important risk’ alerts for regions across the south of Spain, including Sevilla where temperatures could reach 42C. Amber warnings area also in place for parts of Majorca, which could experience a high of 39C. Yellow ‘risk’ alerts are in place for several areas, including Alicante, which could see a high of 36C, and Valencia where temperatures could rise to 38C.

Where red alerts are in place temperatures are likely to reach over 40C, while amber alerts cover areas where there’s a 40-70per cer cent chance of temperatures rising to 40C. In areas covered by yellow alerts temperatures are expected to reach the late 30s.
Temperatures are expected to cool off towards the end of the week, although some amber and yellow weather warnings remain in place on Thursday. There are no amber alerts in place for Friday, although large areas of Spain, including Valencia and Madrid, are covered by yellow alerts.
