Scotland has recorded another 12,602 Covid cases as the number of people being treated in hospital with the disease climbed again in the last 24 hours.
Data has been published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland (PHS) this afternoon as part of the national Covid-19 daily briefing.
Nationally, there are 1,362 patients with the disease being treated in hospital which is up 39 from yesterday's reported figure. There are currently 48 people being treated in ICUs.
A total of 1,037,665 positive tests have now been recorded from more than four million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic.
According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Inverclyde has the highest rate in the country – at 2,666.8 as of Thursday, January 6.
South Lanarkshire has the second-highest infection rate at 2,637.3 while North Lanarkshire is third with 2,593.1.
In terms of Ayrshire's thee local authorities, East Ayrshire has the highest rate of 2,309.2; North Ayrshire's rate stands at 2,140.0 while South Ayrshire's is 2,011.8.
A total of 21 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 2,026.4.
