It looked for all the world that - after winning another Premier League title - Manchester City would be content with a fairly quiet summer. One big splurge on the player they've coveted for several years would be enough, we thought.

Erling Haaland has sent his first direct message to Manchester City ahead of his £50million move to the Etihad.
The striker is expected to be unveiled by the club in the coming days after the Blues previously announced a deal in principle in May. The Norwegian sensation struck 86 goals in 89 matches for Borussia Dortmund and is being tipped to carry on his word-class ratio to become next season’s Premier League top scorer.
City fans have been waiting patiently for official updates regarding the confirmation of his transfer. And with the transfer market now open, Haaland has now sent a message to supporters of his new club on social media.

Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, played for City between 2000 and 2003. On Friday, Leeds-born Erling posted photos of himself as a toddler donning a City shirt of the era with ‘Dad’ written on the back along with his father’s jersey number of 15.
He captioned it: “To be continued…” Manchester City’s Twitter account soon replied with: “See you soon!” The number 15 shirt is currently free having last been worn by Eliaquim Mangala in 2019.
Some onlookers have taken his post to mean that the striker will be playing in his father’s shirt number. Haaland wore the No.9 at Dortmund, after working his way through No.17 and No.30.
The No.9 shirt is currently worn by Gabriel Jesus, who has been linked with a move away this summer. However, City fans could see Haaland celebrating with the No.15 on his back instead - which would be the first time he had worn the number in his career.
