Two years ago actress Charley Webb left ITV’s soap Emmerdale after a whopping 19 years on the show and has just revealed she’s landed a brand-new role in a touring play. Charley, 35, appeared as the popular character Debbie Dingle who arrived in the village in 2002 and was on and off screen until 2021. During that time, Charley took three maternity leave breaks to have her sons, Buster, Bowie and Ace who she shared with husband and fellow actor Matthew Wolfenden, 43, who plays David Metcalfe in Emmerdale.
Charley had plenty of storylines to keep her busy on the show, from romances, to pregnancy, her daughter’s illness and a terrifying siege. Debbie left the village for Scotland in 2019. But briefly returned in 2020 only to be revealed as Al Chapman’s mistress.
While viewers have already been desperate for her to return to the soap, Charley’s revealed she’s actually bagged herself a brand-new role away from the fictional village. Charley will appear in a touring production of Quiz which dramatises the story of infamous Who Wants to be a Millionaire? contestant Charles Ingram. It follows the 'Coughing Major' scandal around his win and subsequent trial.
On Instagram, Charley announced her part in a play about the famous scandal and wrote: "I've been so excited to announce this. I'll be making my stage debut in Quiz as Diana Ingram, written by the amazing @misterjamesgraham." She continued: "We're opening in @chichesterft on Friday, September 22 and we'll be going on tour for nine weeks to some amazing theatres. Very nervous but very excited.
