Emmerdale viewers have watched with interest, as popular vicar Charles Anderson has been reconnecting with his mother Claudette. But as he continues to do that next week, he's left distracted by a mysterious phone call, which then leads him straight to the prison. Charles has introduced his mother to his family in recent days, as he attempts to build up his relationship with her.
But what Charles doesn't expect is for her to cause trouble for his partner, Manpreet Sharma – although that appears to be happening. And it becomes clear that Charles is hiding something from the people who he is closest to, when he gets a phone call. The day after the mysterious call, he reluctantly lets his mum help him clean the village church.
As the pair clean the church, it becomes clear that Charles is distracted and Claudette resorts to drastic measures to get his attention. Later on, the new mother-and-son relationship takes yet another blow, as Charles tells his mum that there are other places that she can go. Despite that, it becomes increasingly clear that something is troubling Charles.
In scenes that air later, it is obvious that Charles is filled with dread and annoyance as he makes his way towards the prison. He braces himself as a man makes his way towards him, and as they get closer Charles demands that the man stays away from his family. Charles arrived in the village back in late December 2020, but his life before his arrival in the Yorkshire village is a mystery.
