Emmerdale is due to air a heartbreaking departure in the coming week as a fan-favourite leaves the ITV soap.
Residents of the village will wave off Marshall Hamston after a tough few months for the character - ultimately leaving his love interest Arthur Thomas devastated.
Following Arthur's revelation to his loved ones about his sexuality last year, he soon found himself helping his friend with his own sexuality.
What initially appeared to be Marshall playing a joke on Arthur turned out to be something totally different with Marshall struggling to come to terms with being gay, reports the Mirror.
Shortly after it emerged his homophobic father was to blame, with his taunts and comments about Arthur and then to his son. This escalated when Marshall opened up to him, and he physically harmed him.
Following this shocking storyline, fans saw Marshall struggling after he was kicked out by his dad, however, Arthur was quick to welcome him into his family home.
Initially, Marshall went off the rails - with his behaviour spiralling out of control, however, he later confided in Arthur and Arthur's mother Laurel about his mental health and his struggles to accept who he was.
And with the help of his friend, Arthur came to terms with his situation but decided he and Arthur should be friends and not give romance a go.
Alongside Arthur, he hoped maybe one day they would both get together and soon - to his delight - they did.
However, new spoilers confirm an end to the couple's romance as Marshall says goodbye to the village for good - with Marshall thanking Laurel for everything she's done for him.
Arthur is left heartbroken as his love packs up his things and heads for a new life away from the village with his aunt.
