Change to Ofgem price cap - October 1
For the typical household paying their energy bills via direct debit, the Ofgem price cap will drop from £2,074 to £1,923.
This isn't a total cap on how much you'll pay each year, but rather a limit on how much you can be charged per each unit of gas and electricity.
Because of this, your energy bill may be higher or lower than the price cap depending on how much you use. How you pay for your energy may also affect the cost.
It's worth remembering that the £400 discount on energy bills last year won't continue for 2023.
Applications open for Winter Fuel Payment - October 4
People of State Pension age can submit a claim online for their Winter Fuel Payment from October 4, after postal applications launched on September 18.
Many receive the Winter Fuel Payment automatically, but there are some people who need to physically apply for it. The payment can be worth up £300, depending on your circumstances and who you live with.
The Government is then topping this up with an extra £300 pensioner cost of living payment - meaning some households will get up to £600 this winter.
