Social Security Scotland has issued new guidance for people on Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA) whose circumstances change while they are transferring from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) IT system. However, the advice also applies to people in receipt of Adult or Child Disability Payments.
Social Security Scotland said the easiest way for people to notify them of a change is by submitting a change of circumstances via its online service. It said: “Clients have 28 days to submit the change of circumstances form but can ask for a further28-day extension if, for example, they need support or advice to complete it.”
If something changes before your payments from DWP stop, you should call DWP on 0800 121 4600 to let them know, DWP will then tell Social Security Scotland as part of the move between the welfare systems.
The latest figures from Social Security Scotland indicate that it is taking approximately 13 to 17 weeks to transfer someone’s award from the DWP to the devolved welfare system.
As part of the migration process, Social Security Scotland will write to people to inform them when to expect their first Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment along with other important information including how to ensure they continue to receive any other benefits from DWP or HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
Guidance on mygov.scot explains that if you get other benefits or services related to your disability payment, you will need to tell each organisation about the move to Social Security Scotland.
