Eastenders fans were left in tears on Thursday night (23 May) as Whitney Dean, played by Shona McGarty, made her exit from the BBC soap after a 16-year stint. Whitney, who first appeared on our screens back in 2008, has been at the centre of numerous dramatic storylines over the years. Most recently, she was left devastated when she discovered that her partner and father of her newborn baby Dolly, Zack Hudson, had cheated on her with her friend Lauren Branning.
Following this heartbreak, Whitney decided to bid farewell to Walford for good, taking newborn Dolly and foster daughter Britney Wainwright with her. She revealed her plans to move to Wakefield to be closer to her brother Ryan Malloy. Initially overwhelmed by the big move, Whitney found comfort when her adoptive mother Bianca Jackson offered to accompany her, reports the Mirror.
Later in the episode, Whitney broke the news of her departure to Zack, leaving him distraught. In a shocking twist, he retaliated by revealing that Bianca had known all along about his affair with Lauren and had kept it a secret. Whitney was left utterly heartbroken to learn about Bianca's betrayal and later she officially uninvited her from Wakefield.
Before leaving Walford, Whitney met with Zack and Lauren separately ahead of an emotional leaving do at the Queen Vic, where several residents then walked her to the bus stop. In emotional scenes, Whitney, Dolly and Britney all left Walford for good as Julia's Theme played out. Soap watchers were quick to take to Twitter, now X, over the scenes where some eagle-eyed viewers spotted a sweet hidden detail.
