EastEnders fans are convinced they may have rumbled a huge Christmas plot twist, as Walford legend Alfie Moon prepares to be hit with a prostate cancer diagnosis in the coming days. As fans discovered on Tuesday night, 15 August, Alfie was suffering from an enlarged prostate and blood in his urine, something which sparked concern among medics who urgently warned him he needed further tests to rule out prostate cancer.
However, while this could just have easily been a simple health scare, the BBC have confirmed that Alfie will be diagnosed with the brutal disease in the next few weeks, with bosses at the network hinting that it will be an "emotional and pivotal" storyline. As viewers are already aware, this Christmas another high profile storyline will be unfolding, when a man is found dead on Sharon’s wedding day.
In teaser footage released at the start of the year, six women - Denise (Diane Parish), Kathy (Gillian Taylforth), Linda (Kellie Bright), Sharon (Letitia Dean), Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Suki (Balvinder Sopal) will all be embroiled in the storyline, but are they responsible for the man’s death? And more importantly who is the mystery victim? Fans at home are convinced that Alfie’s diagnosis will be connected to the whodunnit plot, with many predicting it could see the reconciliation of former flames Kat Slater and Alfie Moon, even despite Kat currently being in a relationship with Phil Mitchell. One popular theory is that Phil will instead end up marrying Sharon this festive season (and could therefore be the reason she is wearing a wedding dress in the teaser clip) in a surprisingly nostalgic nod to their former on-off relationship over the years.
