It’s not often that the SAG Awards stages a movie cast reunion, but one of the highlights of this year’s actors guild kudofest on Netflix was a lovefest for the 2006 romantic comedy The Devil Wears Prada, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt taking the stage Saturday to present the first award for Male Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Allen White of The Bear won).
“Two things, I forgot my glasses and the envelope,” Streep began after taking the mic solo. She was then joined onstage by Blunt carrying the envelope and Hathaway carrying her glasses.
“It’s an age-old question, where does the character end, and the actor begin?” Streep began.
Blunt retorted, “Meryl and Miranda Priestly are like twins,” referencing Streep’s fierce Anna Wintour-like fashion magazine editor from the movie, a maker and decimator of dreams.
“I don’t think I’m anything like Miranda Priestly!” exclaimed Streep.
Hathaway interjected cooly, “No, no, that wasn’t a question” to laughs in the room.
Streep’s mouth dropped.
“By all means, move at a glacial pace — you know how that thrills me,” Blunt leaned into Streep, quoting Miranda’s catchphrase from the movie.
Although not milestone reunion, it’s nearly an 18-year one for the feature film based on the 2003 New York Times bestseller by Lauren Weisberger.
The movie repped some firsts: It was a title in addition to Brokeback Mountain that propelled Hathaway from young-adult roles that she made her early career in, i.e., Princess Diaries, into more adult parts. It also launched Blunt out of a cannon into leading lady status, the actress playing the icy assistant Emily to Streep’s Miranda.

An awkward mix-up occurred on the red carpet for the stars of Netflix's The Crown, during an interview with Loni Love. Famous US TV presenter Loni, reporting alongside Laverne Cox on E's Live From The Red Carpet at the SAG Awards, got into a spot of bother while chatting to the cast of the popular TV series, The Crown, which is based on the British Royal family. At first, Loni talked to Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, who played Princess Diana on the show and scooped up the SAG award for Female Actress in a Drama Series for her role on the night - all while completely barefoot.
Saturday night saw awards season continue, with the leading Hollywood A-listers walking the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. And it wasn't just the awards that had fans delighted, with the stars of Devil Wears Prada reuniting on stage in a special moment, 18 years after the release of the hit film.
Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic Netflix made clear from the start that they were running a different kind of awards show. Presenter and quasi-host Idris Elba indicated to the attended nominees that, in their speeches, they were free to let expletives fly, but that none of them should say anything “you wouldn’t say in front of Oprah.” (Shortly after that, Meryl Streep walked directly into the mic stand — seeming to suggest a kooky and wild awards show that didn’t quite arrive.) After the SAG Awards had fully moved to streaming — after a liminal year, in 2023, in which the ceremony had aired on Netflix’s YouTube channel, preceded by a long tenure on the Turner cable networks — it felt like a sort of safe space for speaking frankly.
Anne Hathaway‘s performance as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada took her career to the next level. However, she’s previously revealed that she wasn’t the first choice for the role.
