Greg Rutherford, the star of ITV's Dancing On Ice, has broken his silence after he was forced to withdraw from the final after sustaining a serious injury.
The Olympic athlete, 37, was set to compete with his professional skating partner Vanessa James for the 2024 championship title against other contestants Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire. But just hours before the final, a picture was posted on Instagram by Vanessa, 36, revealing that they were going to the hospital as Greg was injured during rehearsals. Vanessa wrote: "Unfortunately Greg has sustained a significant injury this morning at rehearsals and won't be able to perform tonight.
We are on our way to the hospital for Greg to get examined further and receive the treatment he needs." Greg re-posted Vanessa's update on his own Instagram story featuring a sad emoji, reports the Mirror. He also uploaded a video where he is seen receiving medical attention and said: "Hello, I know this looks very dramatic and everything else. Sadly, I picked up a big injury in rehearsals and I'm on my way to hospital.
"So I will not be performing on Dancing On Ice tonight. I am devastated but these things happen. So stay tuned, we'll keep you updated, what a nightmare way for this to finish." Greg later reposted his partner Susie's post, which said: "Not quite how @gregjrutherford anticipated spending today.
Thank you for all your kind messages" with Greg adding: "It's been a really s**t day" with a sad emoji.
