King Charles III looked to be in great spirits as he donned a kilt to greet scores of people waiting to catch a glimpse of him in Aberdeen. The new King met crowds on Union Street during a visit to Aberdeen Town House to meet families who have settled in Aberdeen from Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine.

He will turn 4 during the coronation.  The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a strained relationship with the rest of the royal family after they decided to step down as senior royals in 2020 and move to California.  Charles spoke kindly of the couple in his first speech as king on Sept.

King Charles III's coronation and his grandson Archie's birthday may be on the same day, but it's not a snub at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. ET's royal expert, Katie Nicholls, is breaking down what the coincidence means for the Sussexes, and whether they'll attend the coronation.«Well, having the coronation on Archie's birthday is definitely not a snub. I think it’s very much a happy coincidence,» Nicholls said of the coronation falling on Archie's fourth birthday. «Obviously, a huge amount of planning has to go into an important moment in history, such as a coronation, and the royal calendar is full of anniversaries and birthdays, so I think this is absolutely one of those occasions where it’s a coincidence and hopefully a happy coincidence.»Whether Harry and Meghan will attend is another story, with Nicholls telling ET that it's not clear yet if they've received an invite.«We haven’t got any official details on the guest list, but I’m hearing they are likely to be invited along with other senior and extended family members,» she shared.

Buckingham Palace has made a big announcement about King Charles.

King Charles's coronation will fall on the same day as the birthday of his grandson, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie. Archie will turn four on Saturday May 6 next year, when the King will be crowned alongside Queen Consort Camilla and amid great pageantry in Westminster Abbey.

King Charles III ascended the British royal throne after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, last month, his official coronation date has just been set. The coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London, England, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. According to the press release from Buckingham Palace, the coronation «will reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.» A source close to King Charles III tells ET that the coronation ceremony “will be shorter and simpler than 1953 but absolutely still on a scale and spectacle befitting of sovereignty, history and tradition."ET previously reported that the official event is being coordinated by the Duke of Norfolk, Edward Fitzalan-Howard, and will be a shorter ceremony than previous coronations. It will also «reflect the cultural diversity of the nation,» the source said.  Charles' eldest son, Prince William, who is the next in line to the throne, will play a significant role in the ceremony. The news, which was first reported by the UK’s, will reflect the new king's wishes for a more modern ceremony and his desires for a slimmed down monarchy.
