Dame Deborah James’s mum Heather has shared a beautiful tribute to her daughter on what would have been her 41st birthday. Deborah tragically died following a five-year battle with bowel cancer in June. The broadcaster, who went by the nickname ‘Bowel Babe’, devastatingly announced in May that she had moved to end-of-life care.
In the weeks that followed, she raised a staggering £6.7million for cancer research through her JustGiving page and another £1million with her In The Style range. She was also made a Dame and announced the release of a new book, How to Live When You Could be Dead, which went to number one in the Amazon best sellers list. Marking her beloved daughter’s birthday on Saturday 1 October, Heather shares a stunning snap of Deborah with the caption: “Happy birthday to our darling daughter.
How we wish you were still with us but so proud of all you achieved and the legacy that you have left.” “You will forever live in our hearts,” she added. Plenty of fans rushed to share heartfelt comments on the post, with one writing: “Happy Heavenly Birthday to Deb! “Her life and legacy has touched me profoundly. Just know that your daughter did make a difference! Thinking of you and your entire family.” “Happy birthday dear Deborah,” wrote another.
“You are forever in our hearts. I am so grateful for all you achieved and for the time we were able to share albeit virtually. Heather, sending love to you and your family.” In the months since Deborah’s death, her family have been coming to terms with their loss and trying to adjust to life without her.
