A popular and much-loved dad and granddad who died 10 years after being attacked and left unconscious in the street was unlawfully killed, a coroner has ruled.

Police have made an arrest after a street in Ashton was taped off due to a "nasty" assault which saw a man attacked with a bottle in broad daylight.
Stamford Street in the centre of Ashton was cordoned off at the junction of Booth Street towards the junction with Cavendish Street, with at least two police vehicle spotted by passersby on Sunday afternoon, October 9. Crime scene investigators were spotted at the scene earlier on Sunday afternoon, before the road was later reopened to traffic.
Witnesses reported seeing a "nasty" assault, where one victim was left "badly hurt". One told the Manchester Evening News: "It was awful, I saw the majority of it from my car and it was really nasty. The guy was on the floor, he looked like he'd been badly hurt. I hope he's going to be ok."

Police are now searching for witnesses, and are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around 1pm, especially people who might have footage of the incident. A spokesperson for the force said: “At around 13:00pm yesterday (Sunday 9 October 2022), we received a report of a male being hit with a bottle on Stamford Street in Ashton Town Centre.
"A male was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to Royal Oldham Hospital for his injuries to be assessed. He has since been bailed. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and might have witnessed - or may have footage - of the incident."
