Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley has revealed he was live on air when daughter Chloe Madeley gave birth to her first baby. Chloe, 35, and her husband James Haskell, 37, welcomed their daughter Bhodi in August and no one was more excited than Richard who had been anticipating the arrival for weeks, telling viewers that Chloe was "ready to pop".
Richard, 66, was back behind the GMB desk on Tuesday morning and explained to his co-host Susanna Reid what happened the day Bhodi was born. He told her: "Well, on my very last day doing the show in the middle of August a couple of months ago, I couldn’t tell you at the time because my daughter didn’t want me say anything, but she was in labour.
Richard continued: "She was having the baby and the baby was actually born at 8:40am, while we were in the commercial break, which was very handy." Although Richard was at work when Bodhi was born, he has spent a lot of time with his new granddaughter over the last few months. He told Susanna: "Our house in London has been baby central, because Chloe, her husband and the baby have been living with us, because their house is being done up.
"So they’ve been living with us for three months, and I love it! You just go in and it’s like “baby, baby, baby everywhere." Richard returned to GMB today after a lengthy break and explained that he'd been kept busy and "up to his eyeballs" since he last appeared on-screen. He's been busy making sure he meets the deadline for his latest book and has been spending many days writing at home.
But after Richard explained his month-long absence from the ITV daytime show, viewers took to Twitter to react to his return and the mood was mixed. One tweeted: "Such a disappointment that Richard Madeley is back
