Now we’ll never know which poor soul these severed limbs belonged to. Hulu has opted not to renew murder mystery series Death and Other Details for a second season.
The news is not really surprising; the visually stylish series starring Mandy Patinkin and Violett Beane had a pretty quiet run, not able to break into Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 streaming ratings.
Written by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, Death and Other Details‘ first season stars Patinkin as “the world’s once greatest detective,” Rufus Cotesworth, and Beane as his protégée, Imogene, as they team up to solve a murder on a luxury ocean liner filled with the wealthy and powerful while sailing the Mediterranean. Their search for the truth pits them against a powerful enemy, Victor Sams.
The Season 1 finale wrapped the main mystery, with Sams brought to justice after the villain’s identity was revealed. But in the final seconds, the closer set up a new case and new lead detectives, with Imogene and her squad of fellow amateur sleuths, Leila (Pardis Saremi), Teddy (Angela Zhou) and Jules (Hugo Diego Garcia) coming across severed legs falling from a lift while skiing. The closer also ended just as Sams’ latest asset, Anna (Lauren Patten), was about to get her orders from the arrested boss’ henchmen.
Weiss and Cole McAdams, who served co-showrunners, executive produced alongside Marc Webb, who directed the pilot, and Mark Martin for Black Lamb. ABC Signature was the studio.

She first burst on to our TV screens in 2005 as the doe-eyed Honey Edwards (later Mitchell) in EastEnders – and Emma Barton has been a firm favourite on the BBC soap ever since. Looking back at her screen test for the role, the 46-year-old – who previously appeared on the small screen in Doctors and Spooks, and on stage in shows including Grease – vividly recalls being “terrified” as she filmed in the iconic Queen Vic pub alongside Perry Fenwick, who plays Billy Mitchell, and Shane Richie, who portrays Alfie Moon.
