West Ham United manager David Moyes insists Sir Bobby Charlton typified everything that Manchester United is known for, following his death.
Charlton's family announced on Saturday that the former United midfielder has passed away aged 86, surrounded by his family. A legend around Old Trafford, he made 758 appearances for the Reds before taking on a director role for almost 40 years.
He was in that role when United were tasked with replacing Sir Alex Ferguson, who put then-Everton manager Moyes forward for the role. The Scot struggled to his predecessor's boots and lasted less than eight months, but admitted he will always have fond memories of Charlton.

“I’m deeply saddened and I send my condolences to all his family,” Moyes told West Ham's club website. “The biggest thing everybody remembers, more than anything, is how great a man he was. He was such a good man.
“For me, it was difficult at times at Manchester United and he was incredibly supportive and always had something to say to me. He had a great wife in Lady Norma and even when I lost my job she phoned my wife up, which was really important at the time.
“For me, he carried off all the things that Manchester United were good for. He showed the traditions, he showed exactly how it should be, he showed great humility wherever he went, but not only that at Manchester United, he was ultimately one of the main people in English football over the years.
“When you think of the greats who have come through English football, Bobby Charlton would definitely be in there.”
