A hard-fought victory allowed Dalbeattie Star to keep up the pressure on Newton Stewart.
The Islecroft side ran out 3-1 winners against Mid Annandale to stay four points behind leaders Newton, who have played four games more.
Boss Eddie Warwick said: “It was hard fought and we certainly had to dig in again.
“We created a lot of opportunities but we didn’t take them all, which was probably the difference between other games.
“It was a fiercely competitive game but the most important thing was we had enough to get the three points.”
Dale Milligan gave Star an early lead, Ross Hunter doubling the advantage just seconds after the
break. The visitors got one back a few minutes from the end before Hunter scored again to settle things.
Warwick said: “If you don’t take chances then the other side is always in the game.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game but we weren’t in too much danger. They scored a goal and had their tails up but good play to make it 3-1 knocked the stuffing out of them a wee bit.
“We got an early goal and usually when we do that our tails are up and we punish the opposition, but we just came off it a wee bit.
“The second half was the same, we got the goal just after half-time like we normally do then came off it and it wasn’t until the end we got the other goal.
“There was just periods in the game we weren’t as clinical as we normally are. It’s not going to be like that every week and with seven games to go it’s all about winning and getting the three points.
“It might not always be fancy but you’ve just got to make sure you do whatever you need to do to get over the line.”
