A dad has been left gobsmacked after receiving a brutal response from his Alexa device having asked it for parental advice.
Adam Chamberlain, 45, posted a video of the exchange online, which has now gone viral. After asking the technology how to make his children stop laughing, he claimed the virtual assistant suggested he "punch his kids in the throat".
The pub landlord, from Sheffield, said he was asking his Alexa various questions to try and prompt funny responses from it after he saw a post online that compiled all the bizarre things you can get the device to say. Despite being prepared for some odd answers, Adam was still "shocked" by what he heard.
In a video posted on TikTok, Adam asked: "Alexa, how do you stop kids from laughing?"
And the device responded: "According to an Alexa Answers contributor, if appropriate, you could punch them in the throat. If they are writhing in pain and unable to breathe, they will be less likely to laugh."
The virtual assistant came up with the answer through its Alexa Answers platform, in which people can submit answers to questions that Alexa doesn't currently have a response to, in order to feed information to the device so that it can then read those answers out to other people who ask unusual questions.
Adam's video quickly gained popularity after it was posted online, and has racked up over 215,000 views and more than 21,000 likes - with many finding the brutal response hilarious.
