An inquest into his death heard how Mark, who divided his time between Wyke, Bradford, and Rastrick, near Brighouse, had once been an 'outgoing' man who had worked as a labourer but had developed mental health problems allied with excessive drinking. Mark had been arrested in Bradford and taken to Leeds magistrates' court because it was the only local court sitting on a Saturday.
He was bound over and ordered to pay £50 for a breach of the peace. He was released from court custody on October 15, 2022 and given a train ticket to Bradford, the inquest heard.
But he failed to board a train at Leeds railway station on October 16. His family said he was terrified of public transport due to anxiety.
He was ejected from the station when the final train departed, the inquest heard. He was reported missing on October 17, prompting an investigation by West Yorkshire Police, who initially classed Mark as 'medium risk' and later as 'high risk'.
Tragically, he was found on October 28 semi-conscious by security guard Carl Griffiths beneath a bay window behind some bushes beside an office block in Toronto Square in Leeds city centre. He was described as being dirty and 'skinny'
