Manchester United's Champions League last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid is delicately poised ahead of the second-leg at Old Trafford following a 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital.
Joao Felix gave the hosts an early lead but the scoreline was levelled 10 minutes before the final whistle, with teenager Anthony Elanga scoring his first goal in the competition.
Atletico looked to be the better of the two sides in the first period and in the early exchanges after the break, where they looked to increase their advantage.
In one particular moment during the early stages of the second half, there was an exchange between Ronaldo and De Gea as United prepared to defended another corner.
Ronaldo was seen quickly rushing towards the United stopper and had words with the Spaniard, who was facing his former side.
While the exact words of Ronaldo's words to De Gea are not clear, it appeared the comments were well received by the keeper.
Thankfully for United, they were able to fend off the Atletico storm as they searched for a second goal. allowing them to come back into the match later on through Elanga.
Ronaldo endured a frustrating time on his return to the Spanish capital, where his every touch was jeered by the home supporters due to his long association with their arch-rivals Real Madrid.
He will be keen on having more of an impact in the second leg at Old Trafford on March 15th, as United seek to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Remarkably, United have reached that stage of the competition just twice since finishing runners-up in the 2010-11 season.
