Parents in the north are paying close to £100 on school uniforms each year - despite the ongoing toll of the cost of living crisis causing them to cut down on other essentials.
The figures, released by George at Asda as part of their Back to School Survey 2022, found that 37 per cent of Manchester parents say they are concerned about the costs associated with getting their children ready for school in September.

One in ten across the UK said they even skipped meals to afford new uniform.
For those unable to make such cuts, 36pc of parents in the north west admitted to taking their children to school in visibly worn uniform with half saying the reason was down to a lack of funds to afford new clothes at the time.
While most families said they would try to make uniforms last a year, some 31pc of parents in Manchester admitted to having to buy new school clothes every six months.
Previous studies have estimated that around 1.8million children in the UK go to school in ill-fitting, unclean or incorrect uniforms because parents simply cannot afford to buy alternatives. This can often lead to negative impacts on school children. Asda’s survey found that 92pc of parents were
