Coronation Street's Rita and Mavis icons in emotional reunion at RHS Tatton Flower Show

It was a soap reunion quite unlike any other as Coronation Street's iconic duo of Rita and Mavis, aka acting legends Barbara Knox and Thelma Barlow, were brought back together at the annual RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park on Wednesday. The soap's legendary Rita actress Barbara was invited to the show as a rose has been named in her honour to celebrate her upcoming 90th birthday.
But as she waited to be presented with the rose, there was an emotional reunion with Corrie's Mavis Wilton actress Thelma Barlow, 94. The actresses have remained great friends away from screen after over 30 years spent playing on-screen double act Rita and Mavis throughout the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
Indeed, Barbara was left wiping away tears after the emotional reunion, which was all being filmed for a major new ITV documentary celebrating Barbara's 90th birthday, set to be released this Autumn. Then there was nothing but laughter as the pals caught up on old times.

Fans clamoured to meet and photograph the soap legends as they chatted at the Fryer's Roses stand inside the grand Floral Marquee at the RHS Flower Show, known as the garden party of the north. There was then a grand presentation by officials from Blue Diamond Garden Centres of the new rose Gracious Lady, which has been grown and named in honour of Barbara.
Barbara says she feels deeply honoured to have the gorgeous golden rose named after her at the event. The flower show opened to RHS members on Wednesday and opens to the public from Thursday through to Sunday.
