Coronation Street legend Barbara Knox marvels as cast glam up for special party on the cobbles

Coronation Street fans have said goodbye to a dastardly character at last tonight (Friday). Broke businessman-turned-serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) made sure his last hours on the the cobbles were memorable by attacking his niece Sarah Barlow and partner Jenny Connor.

Barbara Knox has starred in Coronation Street as Rita Tanner for the past 56 years. The veteran soap star made her name on the cobbles shortly after its on-screen debut making her one of the longest-serving cast members. After joining the show full time in 1972 following one episode in 1964, 90 year old Barbara established herself as a mainstay on the programme, acting in some of the soap's most dramatic storylines.

Georgia, 43, who is best known for playing the character Toyah Battersby in Coronation Street, and Charlie, 34, began dating earlier this year after she split from long-term partner Mark Letheren last year.
