Coronation Street's Roy Cropper is inching his way towards a devastating exit, according to fans of the soap. Portrayed by David Neilson since 1995, the mild-mannered Roy's Rolls café owner has spent much of his recent screen time in severe discomfort - holding onto his chest and complaining of pains. At one point he even had to stop dancing with Evelyn Plummer, before heading home and fearfully ringing the doctor.
In Thursday's episode, he managed to get a consultation. Here, Roy was told they'd need to perform further tests on him, leading a worried Evelyn to offer to go with him to his next appointment. As these worrying scenes aired on ITV, Twitter filled up with fans' theories.
"They better not be killing off Roy #Corrie," wrote one user, before two more added: "#Corrie cannot kill Roy off, hearts will break, people will suffer, days of mourning will be had" and "Is Roy having cardiac problems? Someone, please listen to him. He is never ill or complains about his health. #Corrie." Seemingly armed with magnifying glasses, some members of the Corrie fanbase provided a different answer to this drama.
"#Corrie Maybe Roy is allergic to the dog or having panic attacks" and "Please make Roy better praying it's just the dog allergy as can cause the symptoms he has #corrie," read a pair of suggestions. Neilson, meanwhile, has previously spoken about his character's legacy after temporarily leaving the Weatherfield cobbles back in 2021. "I'm 72, obviously.
