The shattered parents of murdered Claire Inglis have vowed to fight to stop violent offenders being bailed to women’s homes.
Ian and Fiona Inglis said daughter Claire, 28, suffered “the worst death you can ever imagine” at the hands of her new boyfriend Christopher McGowan.
The serial offender was jailed for a minimum of 23 years this week for the killing.
The 28-year-old thug inflicted 76 injuries on Claire just weeks after he was released from prison to live with her and her young son in Stirling two years ago.
Brave Fiona and Ian were at the Scottish Parliament yesterday to see the First Minister challenged on the decision to put the convicted domestic abuser in Claire’s home.
They told the Record they will fight for change and blame the court’s bail decision for Claire’s murder as much as her killer.
Ian said: “The bottom line is they’re just as guilty of murdering Claire as McGowan. If they didn’t allow it, he wouldn’t have been a caged animal in my daughter’s house.
“We’ve got to find out why this happened. At first it was as though no one was helping us, but we’re starting to get that help now. Hopefully we can get the answers we need and help things change. At least then I can go to my grave saying I did what I could for my daughter.”
McGowan choked Claire with a baby wipe and burned her with a lighter during the assault in November 2021, leaving her with bleeding inside her skull and extensive injuries to her neck.
