More than 450 objections have been lodged against Gillespie Leisure Ltd’s proposal to add nearly 200 parking bays at Sandyhills Bay Holiday Park.
The Save Sandyhills group is looking for financial help in a bid to secure the legal expertise they need in their efforts to stop what they describe as the “inappropriate development” of the site.
Objectors have raised concerns about the impact the development would have on the environment and landscape as well as loss of amenity and potential road safety issues.
A meeting held by Colvend and Southwick Community Council was attended by more than 100 people, with the minutes recognising the “overwhelming strength of opposition” to the proposal.
Gillespie Leisure Ltd’s planning documents say the proposal “would increase formalised capacity by 196 car spaces with additional designated space for disabled parking, cycles and bus stop facility”.
New planting would offset the biodiversity loss and there would be woodland screening.
A design and access statement adds: “As the proposed car park is designed to work as closely as possible with the existing levels, the line of the existing burns and the surrounding treescape, it will ensure as much of the existing landscape elements are maintained.”
