Bruno Fernandes can follow in the footsteps of a Manchester United hero this afternoon at Goodison Park.
United make the short journey to Merseyside for today’s lunchtime kick-off as they take on relegation-threatened Everton. Having made a disappointing return from the international break against Leicester last weekend, United will need to improve to give their top four hopes a much-needed boost.
Key to their ambitions this afternoon could be Fernandes. The Portugal international is likely to revert to his usual number 10 role following last week’s failed experiment as he and Paul Pogba played as a front two.

Having been Portugal's hero in the international break, with his two goals against North Macedonia sending his nation to this year’s World Cup in Qatar, Fernandes is aiming to get back among the goals for United this afternoon. He's without a goal for his club since scoring in the 4-2 win at Leeds back in February.
The omens are good for the 27-year-old, who has enjoyed his previous meetings with Everton. In four league games against the Toffees, Fernandes has scored four times and has bagged two assists to boot.
He’ll be aiming to add to that tally, with United in need of a boost amid their disappointing season. And should he get on the scoresheet against Frank Lampard’s side this afternoon, he’ll emulate one of United’s modern day heroes in the process.
Fernandes is aiming to become the first United player to score in three consecutive games at Goodison Park since Ruud van Nistelrooy. The former striker achieved the feat between 2001 and 2004.
