The police crackdown on Manchester's 'Counterfeit Street' has led to the conviction of a man for an 'abhorrent' sex attack on a woman.

A woman has died on a busy high street in a town in Trafford.
Officers were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a woman on Ashley Road in Altrincham at around 9.15pm last night (Thursday). Police and paramedics rushed to the scene.
Tragically, the woman - aged in her 30s - died despite the best efforts of emergency services. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

According to eyewitnesses, a stretch of Ashley Road was cordoned off as police responded last night. A number of bars, shops and restaurants were within the police cordon.
Several police vehicles were stationed on the scene late last night. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 9.15pm last night (30 November 2023), officers responded to reports of concerns for the welfare of a woman in Ashley Road, Altrincham.
"Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, a woman in her 30s was confirmed to have died. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
