As Bong Joon-ho accepted the third Oscar for the night for his masterpiece of a film, Parasite, the South Korean filmmaker made sure to give a major shoutout to his fellow nominees - Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Sam Mendes for 1917 and Todd Phillips for Joker.

SEOUL (Reuters) - The stark inequality between two South Korean families portrayed in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” might make viewers uncomfortable but it was the “only path” to revealing cold reality, the film’s director, Bong Joon-ho, said on Wednesday.

After South Korean thriller Parasite bagged Best Picture and three additional Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, director Bong Joon-ho was ready for a night of drinking and merriment, as he expressed several times during his acceptance speeches. After all, he had just made history alongside the film's talented cast. Bong and company packed up after the event dissipated and headed out into LA's Koreatown for a late-night celebration at the restaurant Soban.

It was a moment of pride for the South Korean film industry after Parasite bagged the highest number of awards at the 92nd Academy Awards over the weekend. The Korean drama film not only won Best International Film but also bagged the Oscar for Best Directing and Best Picture. Soon enough, the internet was flooded with congratulatory messages addressing director Bong Joon Ho and the team of Parasite. BTS joined social media users to congratulate Parasite for their historic win. 

“Parasite” made history as the first foreign language film to ever win the Academy Award for best picture, in addition to taking home three other awards for best director, best international feature film and best original screenplay. It earned South Korea its first Oscar nominations and wins ever.

To say that it was a monumental night, in Oscars' history, would be an understatement! And, we have Bong Joon-ho to thank for that! With his brilliant film Parasite, the filmmaker made history at Oscars 2020 as not just the first South Korean movie but the first non-English language film to ever take home the coveted Oscar for Best Picture. Parasite also won the Academy Award for Directing for Bong, International Feature Film and Original Screenplay for Bong and Kwak Sin-ae.

South Korean dark comedy Parasite has continued its remarkable awards season run as it emerged victorious at the Oscars.
