Director of Oscar-winning 'Parasite' did not want to sugarcoat inequality

Parasite made history earlier this month by becoming the first-ever foreign-language film to win an Oscar for Best Picture and the studio behind the film is not ready to let anyone make fun of their well deserved success. During his latest speech at a rally, US President Donald Trump mocked Oscars for giving the award to the South Korean film film.

While the world appreciated the Academy for recognising talent beyond boundaries and language barriers when they presented Parasite with Best Picture award at Oscars 2020, US President Donald Trump did not think it was a good idea. While delivering a speech at a rally on January 20, Trump mocked Oscars for the South Korean film’s historic win, Variety reported.

COLORADO SPRINGS — President Donald Trump on Thursday ridiculed the historic best-picture Oscar win for South Korean film “Parasite,” telling a campaign rally he wished for the return of Hollywood classics like 1939’s “Gone with the Wind.”

As Bong Joon-ho accepted the third Oscar for the night for his masterpiece of a film, Parasite, the South Korean filmmaker made sure to give a major shoutout to his fellow nominees - Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Sam Mendes for 1917 and Todd Phillips for Joker.

With his brilliant film Parasite, the filmmaker made history at Oscars 2020 as not just the first South Korean movie but the first non-English language film to ever take home the coveted Oscar for Best Picture. Parasite also won the Academy Award for Directing for Bong, International Feature Film and Original Screenplay for Bong and Kwak Sin-ae.

Movie history was made in Hollywood and Seoul tonight! Bong Joon Ho's South Korean film Parasite took home the last statue of the evening at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, becoming the first film not in English to win Best Picture. The victory capped off a night where Sam Mendes' technically dazzling war epic 1917 had a very strong chance of winning the grand prize, and many expected it would.
