BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Zara McDermott reveals royal 'honour' as fans jump to her defence

Fans have defended Zara McDermott as she proudly shared her 'honour' at being able to spend time in the company of another royal. The Strictly Come Dancing 2023 star previously met the Princess of Wales as a supporter of her Shaping Us campaign which aims to highlight the importance of early years development.
But this week, Zara met the Queen at Buckingham Palace as Her Majesty launched her 'Wash Bags' project for sexual assault victims. Camilla is said to have told her guests she first championed the idea of wash bags more than a decade ago after “learning more about the horrific impact sexual violence, and its aftermath, has on survivors” during visits to Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs).
Sharing pictures of the moment she shook hands with the Queen alongside her mum who she took with her to the important event, Zara said on Instagram: "Today I had the honour of visiting Buckingham Palace to meet with the Queen, and also so many other inspirational women, at a reception to recognise those who support survivors of sexual assault.

This concept is such a powerful one (which I’m going to share more about on my stories), whereby sexual assault survivors are given a washbag full of essential items after they have bravely attended a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), which is a specialist forensic service for anyone who has been assaulted.
